More on our Applied Conservation Science Lab projects

Raincoast’s field work season has been put on hold due to the covid-19 pandemic so we are sharing with you some of the projects at Raincoast’s Applied Conservation Science Lab at the University of Victoria.

In Kitasoo/Xai-Xais territory, Tyler Jessen is leading a project combining multiple datasets from aerial surveys, hunting records, and Indigenous Knowledge to better understand the ecology, threats, and historical changes in coastal mountain goat populations in BC.

The collaborative approach allows for a deeper insight into past trends which helps to contextualize the current and future changes in mountain goats and their habitat.

The Kitasoo/Xai-Xais Stewardship Authority can use this information to inform their own land use practices (e.g. hunting, forestry).
