Meet Raincoast’s newest doctor.
Yesterday Dr. Kyle Artelle successfully defended his thesis.
Working with the Heiltsuk Nation, Raincoast and many other partners, Kyle’s research into wildlife management has highlighted that the government has failed to meet its own targets for managing human caused grizzly mortality (including trophy hunting). Additionally Kyle’s work has identified the importance of food supply in managing conflict with bears and highlighted that hunting or removal of problem individuals did not reduce the frequency of conflict with humans.
In short Kyle’s work is helping to ensure that wildlife management is science based and this work is informing conservation efforts in the Great Bear Rainforest and beyond.
Congratulations Dr. Artelle.
