Spirit Bears are protected, but their gene pool is not

A black bear and a spirit bear walk side by side in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Spirit Bears are protected. Their gene pool is not.

Black bears that may carry the recessive genes that produce Spirit Bears are still subject to trophy hunting.

Raincoast and Coastal First Nations are working to end all commercial trophy hunting of large carnivores in the Great Bear Rainforest. We do this by purchasing commercial trophy hunting tenures but only shooting wildlife with cameras.

We are nearly half way to acquiring the Nadeea tenure. If you are able to help us raise the funds to safeguard coastal carnivores, go here to help out.
