BC becomes first jurisdiction in Canada to pass UNDRIP bill
This bill recognizes the inherent jurisdiction of Indigenous people, who have been stewarding their territories for millennia.
British Columbia has become the first jurisdiction in Canada to pass legislation implementing the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). The UNDRIP bill, bill 41, passed the third reading and is now an act.
By recognizing the inherent jurisdiction of Indigenous people, who have been stewarding their territories for millennia, BC has set a course for more just and sustainable decisions for everyone.
