Hakai Institute was on Achiever monitoring water flow from icefields to the ocean

Hakai Institute has been using our research vessel Achiever for a fascinating project monitoring the flow of water from icefields to the ocean.

They’ve been studying water flow to explore how climate change threatens this incredible landscape.

The glacial runoff transports sediment, moisture and nutrients downstream. However the glaciers in the area are retreating due to climate change so this source of lifegiving water is at risk.

Gaining an understanding of how runoff contributes to inlet ecology in this time of change is important as the circulation water shapes how the diversity of life can survive in these regions, including salmon.
