We purchased the Spirit bear tenure in 2011.
It covers an area of approximately 3,500 square km including the islands portion of a large territory owned by a private European shooting club. It contains the vast majority of known Spirit bear habitat, and includes all of Princess Royal Island and Gribbel Island. We raised $400,000 in 18 months to acquire it.
The purchase generated considerable media attention and contributed to the growing opposition to trophy hunting in BC.
