Three new calves born into the Southern Resident Killer Whale community

The Centre for Whale Research confirmed a new calf born last week.

Last week the Centre for Whale Research confirmed that a new calf, L125, has been born into the Southern Resident killer whale (SRKW) community.

The three new calves in the last year bring us hope that SRKWs can recover if their conditions improve. Our approach to recovering SRKWs have two main objectives:

1. Hold the line: to keep critical habitat in the Salish Sea from becoming further degraded.

2. Reduce the immediate threats undermining their survival; lack of food, noise and disturbance from vessels, and pollutants that accumulate in their food.
